Savusavu’s Transinsular Road ‘Ready’

Major rehabilitation work on deteriorated sections of the Transinsular Road in Savusavu is now completed, Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) has confirmed.
Hiways construction manager Scott Wilkinson said: “Sections of this road needed P1 structural repairs. This is when the road fails and it is posing a risk to road users. Some vehicles are forced to use the other lane just to avoid potholes, which was dangerous.”
FHH is contracted by the Fiji Roads Authority to maintain the unsealed and sealed road networks in the Northern Division.
“Motorists will now have a smooth and enjoyable ride more importantly it will be now safer than before,” Mr Wilkinson said.
“The crews, each made up of 16 people, have removed the deteriorated material from the road and stablised both the sites with cement. They have also removed the shoulders on the side of the road to allow the flow of water away from the road.
“The road has been affected by years and years of normal wear and tear through the years and also overloading. Both have caused the deterioration of the road, making it impossible for motorists to avoid the numerous potholes.”
