Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas remains as one of our favourite hunting grounds, says veteran Fiji Airways Fijian 7s forward and Olympian Jasa Veremalua.

Since Las Vegas hosted the USA Sevens in 2010, the Fijians have played in four Cup finals. They won the 2015 and 2016 tournaments, in which Veremalua was part of.

“Las Vegas is just like our home ground,” Veremalua told SUNsports.

“It’s also like in Hamilton where we won last month. To me after that win it made me feel what it was like in 2015 and 2016 where we had won.”

In 2016, the Korotogo native’s performance in the USA Sevens saw him won the DHL Impact Player of the Tournament. He was later crowned the DHL Impact Player of the 2015/16 series as well as making the Dream team.

The soft-spoken Veremalua said, they are going to take one tournament at a time.

“After Las Vegas we are going to focus on Vancouver. The boys are psyched up and we will work on our mistakes and on our running lines.”

CALL FOR SUPPORT

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s captain Seremaia Tuwai has called on the nation to back the team once again.

“We thank the fans for backing us and this lifted our game compared to previous competitions,” he said.

“Right now we will take each game at a time and we are working on fixing the wrong things. The boys, who are in the team, have tasted victory in the series and their body language over the past weeks tell me that they are on the right path and will do better on game day,” he added.

The Fijians are in third spot of the World Sevens Series with 62 points behind leaders South Africa (77) and New Zealand (69) who are in second spot.
