Tarsealed road

Joji Toronibau , Tunuloa

A month back, I witnessed a charismatic senior executive commenting on the Hibiscus Highway tar sealed stretch.

He stated that the reason the tarsealed road ends at Kasavu and not stretched further on right up to Natuvu and as far as Napuka was because of the volume of vehicles was low.

Perhaps true in their one-day evaluation and scoping studies, but talk about the frequency of utilisation 24/7 is another chronicle.

Visiting the health centres of Tukavesi, Natewa and Bagasau is the norm of the day.

There are family gatherings, trading and distribution of goods and services from towns and cities.

There are three vessels steaming across Taveuni everyday.

There are land transport vehicles and more buses on direct route to and from Labasa.

Indeed, we want the same treatment as enjoyed by every Fijians.

I remember quiet well that old learned gentleman: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” George Orwell, Animal Farm.

Rabuka and Ro Dona

Tukai Lagonilakeba , Nadi

Sitiveni Rabuka has every right as a leader of the SODELPA to question if Ro Dona Takalaiyale is a bonafide financial member or not.

He is also right in saying that Ro Teimumu has never applied for a party ticket to be considered a candidate for the 2018 General Election, but their party constitution seems to differentiate and discriminate other party members from their two paramount chiefs where Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and Ro Teimumu Kepa have special preferences.

They can wait to apply for a ticket even after the closing date of the expression of interest to submit theirs.

Traditionally, Ro Dona is the Vanua o Rewa spokesperson [Matanivanua] for the Roko Tui Dreketi, but he automatically cannot assume the position of SODELPA spokesperson as and when he feels like.

In politics every Fijian is the same and that applies for the chiefs too – Tui Nayau, Tui Cakau or Roko Tui Dreketi.

You can return to the Vanua if you feel the heat is too strong in politics because you will not get the respect you deserve in there.

Why should there be two sets of rules?
