Captain calls on players to work together and  be ready for today’s semis

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s captain Seremaia Tuwai said he does not want a repeat of what they  faced against New Zealand in the USA Sevens Cup quarterfinals yesterday.

Tuwai scored after the final hooter sounded as they scrapped to a 14-10 win over their arch rivals.

“I think our boys like to have fun when we score in the last minute,” Tuwai told World Rugby.

“I told them please do not do that again. But I think we just love the adrenaline. Yes, I’m really happy with the effort put in by the boys especially when we were behind 10-7.”

The Fijians had themselves to blame as they missed a number of try scoring opportunities with Amenoni Nasilasila opting to play individually during crucial moments of the clash.

It was a game riddled with errors with New Zealand dominating the breakdowns resulting in their impressive completed pass rate of 33 compared to Fiji’s 18.

New Zealand led Fiji 10-7 at halftime with two unconverted tries to Vilimoni Koroi and Sione Molina while Nasilasila scored Fiji’s try.

The Gareth Baber coached-side today face hosts USA in the Cup semifinals.

“For us it is all about communication during defence, because sometimes the players get lazy when we are in front and that is something that we have to work on and try to better before the semifinals,” Tuwai added.

He said playing in Las Vegas was one of the tournaments they looked forward especially for the many fans.
