Seruiratu says Government has invested a lot in the Look North Policy

Government’s investment towards ensuring the continued facilitation of purchasing and sale of agro-produce for our rural communities through the Agriculture Marketing Authority (AMA) in the Northern Division will remain.

Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services, riterated Inia Seruiratu this during his visit to the AMA in Savusavu recentyly.

“Government has invested a lot in the Look North Policy, particularly on the improvement of infrastructure, communication and utilities and will continue with the focus on economic empowerment of our rural communities.

“For agriculture to be preserved, we need to develop the value chain as consistency is very important and so is the development of proper facilities,” Hon Seruiratu said.

He said the setting up of packing sheds, proper packing houses and cold storage systems will facilitate the purchase and sale of more farm produce and fisheries products from the North.

This will ensure consistency in their operations to supplement their establishment.

“The Agriculture Marketing Authority is making significant improvements in its operations and now we want to move our collection centres into the key areas,” he said.

Seruiratu was in Vanua Levu to monitor and inspect the progress of agricultural development projects in the Northern Division.
