The Australian Government is proud to have supported 371 Fijian women to study at Australian institutions since 2007.
This was revealed by the Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes, during the Australian Awards Alumni networking event and tribute to International Women’s Day 2018 held at Holiday Inn in Suva on Wednesday.
Hundreds turned up to attend the event to mark the International Women’s Day and celebrate the Australian Awards Alumni event.
Some 48 Fiji-Australia Awards graduates who had completed their studies in Australia in 2017 were among the attendees along with representatives from 10 different Australian universities who are in Fiji with Austrade for their annual education roadshow.
Mr Feakes said the Australian Government was committed to gender equality outcomes across the international agenda.
“We salute the many women who have shattered their glass ceilings in an attempt to expand opportunities for fellow females.
“Through the Australia Awards, we are helping to improve skills and expertise in the areas of health, education, infrastructure development, disability, gender, business, finance, environment and climate change.
“We celebrated Fiji’s Australia Alumni-Fijian men and women of diverse backgrounds who have studied in Australia and have returned to Fiji to help build its future,” Mr Feakes said.
