Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) chief executive officer John O’Connor has confirmed that they would be having their awards night on March 16 at the Sheraton Hotel in Nadi.

He made the announcement during a press conference at the FRU boardroom in Suva, yesterday.

“It will be held for two purposes; one is to reward our players for the 2017 season during our Fiji Rugby awards night together with the official announcement of the details of our sevens bid,” O’Connor said.

The FRU is still awaiting confirmation on who is going to be the chief guest. He said they would be expecting a big turnout given the response they received from corporate bodies and stakeholders.

“We are also having discussions with our unions who have indicated that they would like to be present during this special occasion for FRU. Hopefully during the evening we will be making the details of our bid publicly.”

FRU commercial management manager Brian Thorborn said they would also be announcing the winners for the trip to watch the Hong Kong 7s tournament.

A competition for those that registered their support online for the FRU’s Fiji 7s bid.

“We will be drawing that out in the next few days and we will be announcing the winner on that Friday night as well,” he added.
