Nadi, Waiyavi Win Western Volleyball Championship

Nadi and Waiyavi took out the 2018 Western Rally Volleyball championship in the men and women’s grade at the Lautoka Multi-purpose Court on Saturday night.

Nadi One and Nadi Two battled in an all Nadi final and played only one set said, Nadi Volleyball Association senior vice-president Dan Vakadranu.

“Nadi One won the set to decide the winner as it was getting dark,” he said.

“We hope both teams can do well in the Easter Championship in Suva at the end of the month.”

Nadi One fielded skipper Paul Vatucawaqa, Wame Salabogi, Viliame Bulu and Taniela Seninawawa. They represented Fiji at last year’s Oceania Championship.

Nadi Two had seasoned players like Jonathan Liew and former Fiji Under-19 basketball rep Semesa Lagi.

The semi-final saw Mid-West Waiyavi One lose 1- 2 to Nadi Two, while Nadi One proved too strong for Lautoka Yellow winning 3-0.

In the women competition, Waiyavi of Lautoka beat Lautoka Red in the final.

The semifinals saw Lautoka Red edge out Nadi 2-1 and Mid-West Waiyavi One beat Mid-West Waiyavi Two 3-0.
