Qauia Club For Marist 7s

Qauia settlement outside Lami Town and is known to be the home of many of our sevens rugby stars.
There are many rugby teams in the area but one that has been prominent was the Red Rock rugby club, which was coached by the late Lote Rasiga.
The club produced top players like Sireli Bobo, Niumaia Cakacaka, Jone Macilai, Timoci Matanavou, Mosese Dunadamu, Sireli Dasi, Manasa Bola, Lepani Nabuliwaqa, Olympian Jasa Veremalua and current Fiji Airways Fijian 7s winger Eroni Sau.
This year’s Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament sees the emergence of a new club called Muaniwavu Qauia, whose officials are confident of making things happen for them.
Muaniwavu Qauia player Jope Koroi said they were optimistic of their chances of winning the 42nd Marist Sevens tournament despite all odds.
“We have been preparing well,” he told SUNsports.
“The players are aware of the challenges ahead of us and we are ready for it also to show the other teams what we have to offer.” Koroi said they would gradually intensify their training programme as they march into camp next week.
“As we draw near to the competition even among the players there is competition as we’re all fighting for a spot in the team. As we all want to play in the country’s biggest sevens tournament.
“We know we will be facing some big teams who have former Fiji sevens players, but we want to show them that we, too have what it takes.
“Also we want to showcase our brand of rugby not only to the other teams but to the whole of Fiji as well.”
Koroi said they’re aiming to walk away with the coveted trophy and get some of their players in to the national sevens squad.
