Authorities are now tight lipped over the salvaging of the Southern Phoenix that sunk at the Suva Harbour in May last year.

Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji chief executive officer John Tunidau had said last week that the tender process for the removal of the ship was done.

However efforts to get an update from responsible authorities yesterday were unsuccessful.

The vessel has lain in the Suva harbour the last ten months.

Last year Mr Tunidau had alluded that the vessel would be salvaged early this year.

Meanwhile MSAF had facilitated an oil spill workshop last month where the Southern Phoenix was discussed.

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited and vessel owners, Cruz Shipping Services Limited are the other two stakeholders in the removal of the vessel from the Suva harbour.
