This Saturday’s boxing promotion is going ahead, says Boxing Commission of Fiji chairman Bulutani Mataitawakilai.

Speaking to SUNsports last night Mataitawakilai however said, for the main bout they are waiting for Sivan Hermez’s release letter from the Professional Boxing Council of New Zealand.

Hermez is billed to fight Fiji-based Ghanaian boxer Joseph Kwadjo at the FMF Gymnasium, Suva in the main bout of the Majestic Boxing Promotions.

“We spoke with the promoter and we’ll await the release letter from PBCNZ,” Mataitawakilai said. “We have been in touch with PBCNZ and this was recommended to us by judge/referee Faiyaz Khan who is also based in New Zealand.

“We are cautious and also concerned. We have being reliably informed even though we are an independent body. All should adhere to the rules and regulations set.”

It is understood that Hermez is suspended on medical grounds after he lost on a technical knockout to John Hutchinson in Brisbane, Australia, on February 17.

However, Hermez has knocked out promising Korobo Etto in Melbourne. That was Etto’s first loss.

While arriving in the country yesterday, a confident Hermez said he was confident of a good outing against Kwadjo.

“I will do my talking in the ring. I know my opponent and he is very tough. I’m very fortunate and privileged to be here and I’m looking forward to the fight.”

The 36-year-old hails from Alqosh, North of Iraq and is living in Papatoetoe in Auckland, New Zealand since 1995.

The official weigh-in is set for 3pm today at Ratu Sukuna Park, Suva.
