The family of the late Amelia Baletagici Tuima are still coming to terms with the fact that she is no more.

Ms Tuima, who turned 23 early this week was not able to celebrate her birthday with her family and friends.

The third year nursing student was originally from Waiqori Village in Oneata, Lau.

Her mother, Salome Makita Maiwaikatakata, said she was at peace.

“Losing a daughter is not easy and I am taking each day as it comes,” Ms Maiwaikatakata said.

“I am coming to terms with the fact that I will not see my daughter any more. Her nursing colleagues have been there for me since day one. I can feel their prayers and they have helped me go through this hard time.”

Saimone Veisaci yesterday delivered a eulogy on Ms Tuima on behalf of the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing in Labasa.

“Amelia was someone our teachers and friends can always count on. She was someone who is always smiling,” Mr Veisaci said.

“The two years we spent together was like we spent our lives together,” the nursing student said.

“It really hurts that Amelia is no longer among us. It is really hard to accept that Amelia is not here with us.”

The late Ms Tuima was the eldest of three siblings. It is alleged that her husband, Tevita Vuniwai, stabbed her early this month at Vakamasuasua Subdivision in Labasa. He appeared before Magistrate Cama Tuberi yesterday on a murder charge.
