The countdown for the 2018 Coca-Cola Games on April 20-21 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva has begun.

This was after the official lighting of the Powerade National Torch at the Coca-Cola Amatil headquarters in Laucala Beach, yesterday.

Coca-Cola Amatil Fiji general manager Roger Hare said heading into its 45th year of sponsorship, Coca-Cola was proud to be part of the event that helps bring people together.

Hare added students will be able to be a part of the game itself and share the experience.

“We are now in our 45th year in the partnership of the Coca-Cola Games which we are tremendously proud to be a part of this world class event,” he said.

“To bring this to life it does require the family of sponsors to come together and we are hoping new records broken, memories made within the teams and across the schools.

“The Powerade National Touch Relay brings the spirit of the games to each schools and this is a fantastic way schools can get into the spirit of the games, even for students who can’t attend.”

Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics general secretary Vuli Waqa said zone meets have begun and they were still yet to confirm the number of schools participating.

Waqa added most schools were preparing early and the athletes must qualify in order to participate.

The torch relay will be visiting 75 schools in the  next 24 days.

The first visit will be on Monday at the International Secondary School in Laucala Beach.
