Music Director Igelese Ete to speak at the FIA 2018 Congress

The Fiji Institute of Accountants is pleased to announce that Musical director, composer and Choral Clinician Igelese Ete will be a speaker at the upcoming FIA 2018 Congress in May.

The Fiji Institute of Accountants is pleased to announce that Musical director, composer and Choral Clinician Igelese Ete will be a speaker at the upcoming FIA 2018 Congress in May.

Mr Ete is the Head of Performing Arts at the Oceania Centre for Arts Culture and Pacific Studies at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji. He has been commissioned to compose and arrange musical works for numerous organisations, events, festivals and institutions around the world.

“We are very honoured to have a speaker of such calibre, experience and skill like Igelese Ete.

“We believe that he brings something different to the Congress and we are confident that the delegates will enjoy his presentation,” said FIA President Finau Nagera.

Rajeshwar Singh, chairman of the FIA Congress Organising Committee said: “The theme for this year’s Congress is Growth Through Synergy: Collaboration, Innovation and Resilience and our speakers for the Congress best represent this theme. Igelese’s skill and experience is diverse: he is creative and innovative.

He has spoken at other global conferences and seeing as he is very familiar with Fiji it is an added bonus.”

Igelese Ete is one of nine speakers to be featured at the 46th FIA Annual Congress jointly sponsored by Vodafone and Westpac that will be held on the 18 – 19 May at the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa.

Mr Ete’s extensive conducting, composing and teaching experience includes working alongside the New Zealand Choirmaster for Peter Jackson’s acclaimed film “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”, workingwith the Oscar award-winningcomposer Howard Shore and film director Sir Peter Jackson.

While his work with Howard Shore is more popularly known Mr Ete has also worked on other big projects like “Na Nai’a– The Legends of the Dolphins” involving high profile actors such as WhoopiGoldberg, Gerald Butler, Kate Winsletand Megan Fox which was premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France.

He was also the ‘choirmaster’ and music/choral consultant for the latest Disney hit “Moana”working with Dwayne Johnson and composers Mark Mancina (Lion King)and Lin Manuel Miranda and Opetaia Foa’I, Te Vaka.

Mr Ete was awarded the prestigious Creative New Zealand Senior Pacific Artist Award for his contribution to the promotion and performance of Pacific music in New Zealand and the Pacific in 2009.

He is the first Creative Fellow of Pacific Music at the School of Creative and Performing Artsat the University of Auckland and has also presented a paper on Pacific Choral Music at World Choral Symposiums in China, Japan and in South Korea.

Mr Ete’s other established projects include the Mana Choral Festival in 2007 which unites secondary schools from specific regions through choral songs/production.

He was also the Musical Director for the Opening and Closing Ceremony for the Commonwealth Youth Games 2015 in Samoa – the very first to be held in the Pacific regionwhich received raving reviews.

He is currently working on his PhD researching traditional Samoan chants and eventually composing new choral works.Ete is married to Vasiti.

They have an 18year old daughter Aria, a 14-year-old son Naatapuitea and 1 year old baby girl Nafanua. He is very passionate about the Pacific creative and performing arts and its ability toinspire, empower, educateand uplift the world.
