Jona Nabaro, of Khalsa College took out gold in the blue ribbon event of the Ba Athletics Zone meet at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

The Vadravadra, Ba native will be a force to be reckon with at the 2018 Coca- Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium in Suva next month.

He clocked 10.97 seconds beating Paula Tabacece (Nukuloa College) who finished second and Orisi Vula of AD Patel College) finishing third

“My time’s good, hope to do better come the Coke Games. This will be the second time for me to make it to the Coke Game, my first was in 2015.”

The new synthetic track at Churchill Park is great,” the 19 -year old said.

Suluweti Kavu (Khalsa College) took out gold with a time of 13.31secs in the girls 100m final.

Sisilia Nailevu (DAV College) settled for silver and Eta Liku (AD Patel) won bronze.

“My aim is to compete again at the Coke Games. I need to work hard on my time. I finished fourth last year,” the Naqelewai, Naitasiri native said.

Ba Zone meet manager Daniel Krishneel said: “It’s a milestone achievement for Ba Zone for athletes to have their meet for the first time at the synthetic track.

“Students from the nine schools love it.

Meanwhile, traditional champions Xavier College are leading the medal tally in both the boys and girls divisions respectively.

No record was broken on day one of the competition ends today.

Xavier College leads the boys division with  13 gold,five silver and six bronze medals,Khalsa College in second place with three gold,two silver and five bronze medals and Kamil College in third place with three gold,two silver and one bronze medals.

In the girls division Xavier leads with eight gold, five silver and five bronze medals, AD Patel College in second place with three gold, three silver and two bronze medals and Ba Sanatan College in third place with three gold and four bronze medals.
