Strengthening relations with their Fijian counterparts through football is one of the main aims of United Airlines staff.

Yesterday they arrived into the country to play friendly matches against Fiji Airways, ANZ Bank and Suva Veterans in Nadi.

In the first match against Fiji Airways, they went down 4-2 as the heat took its toll on them.

United Airlines Football Committee organiser, Sue Qiolevu said the players and close to 50 supporters are employees of United Airlines based in San Francisco, USA.

“We made our own way to Fiji and set a date to meet here, it was really good to see the support from the employees,” he said.

“This is our second year in Fiji and we just love the Fijian hospitality, the only thing that draws us back here.”

Qiolevu said they also play football matches like this in other parts of the world.

“This is an opportunity for us to strengthen our bond with all Fijians and it is an honour to visit Fiji,” she added.

Fiji Airways coach, Jainish Chand said they were privileged to play against them.

“We also won last year in our friendly match and we don’t mind hosting them in Fiji every year. This will help us too and build a bond between the two airlines,” he added.
