Meehil Chand is not the first in the family to get badged.

Leaders are not chosen by chance, the teachers identify them by their performance based on discipline and academic performance.

The Director of Primary Education Hem Chand  made this statement during the prefect’s investiture ceremony at Gram Sangathan School in Buiduna, Nausori on Friday.

He said the prefects needed to perform their duties with interest and pride.

“It should not affect their learning and need to remain focused,” Mr Chand said.

Meehil Chand, 13, of Buiduna in Nausori said he was happy and excited to be the school’s headboy.

“My role as a headboy is to encourage the students to work hard academically,” Meehil said.

With teary eyes, he attributed his position to his elder sister who died in 2016.

“My sister encouraged me to study hard and whatever I am today is because of her,” Meehil said.

He said he was not the first in the family to get badged.

“It is a privilege to be the headboy of the school,” he said.

He said his parents were happy for him and his mother witnessed him getting badged.

Esha Kumar, 13, of Buiduna in Nausori said she was happy to be badged as the headgirl of the school.

“I was class captain, school prefect and now the headgirl of the school,” Esha said.

She is not the first in the family to receive the badge.

The duo aim to lead by example as heads of the school.

The school inducted 40 students and caters for 155 students and seven teachers.
