Staff Members Learn Basic First Aid

Fulton Hogan Hiways staff members underwent First Aid training as part of the company’s overall emphasis on a safe workplace.
In the first series of training, 13 staff members were selected to start specialised training which included initial care for the sick or injured staff at job sites.
“This was important for the guys as it allowed them to respond to situations in their church, homes or even at sports events. Without this basic training, if someone gets bumped on site, or collapses, such basic training can help save a life,” said Andy Eames, CEO of Handy Training.
“Other issues we looked at during the training were the overall safety and wellbeing, both to you and the work area.”
Participants also underwent special training on dealing with post-traumatic situations like serious accidents.
“Communications is also vital in emergency situations with your own teams, with emergency services and also the public,” he said.
FHH employees were also upskilled on the steps needed to take when a person is having a heart attack, when to apply CPR, attending to broken bones and fractures, serious head or even spinal injuries.
“The response from employees was great with staff asking a lot of questions. That way more information was absorbed and they are now better prepared for any situation that may arise,” Mr Eames said.
