Police Recapture Tavua Man

Police have confirmed they have apprehended and arrested Semesa Bokini, who they say assaulted a Police officer in Tavua on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Inspector Jokatama Qio has confirmed Bokini was being held in remand at the Tavua Police Station for alleged theft-related offences.

However, he had complained to the officers that he was not feeling well so a Police officer escorted him to Tavua Hospital on Monday.

“On the way to the hospital, Bokini assaulted the Police officer who was escorting him and escaped,” Inspector Qio said.

“However, it has been confirmed to us that he has been recaptured and detained as of midday today (yesterday).”

Bokini’s actions infuriated Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu who warned members of the general public that they would not be tolerating action of this sort.

“We will not tolerate this. If someone tries to take the law into their own hands they will surely feel the full brunt of the law,’’ Mr Tudravu said in a statement.

“No one is above the law and I repeat no one is above the law.”

Mr Tudravu said similar incidents took place last weekend.

“Police is mandated by law to make sure that law and order is maintained at all times in the country,’’ Mr Tudravu said.

“We expect the members of the public to respect the men and women of the force as they execute their duties.

“We strongly condemn this type of behavior against our officers.”
