24 Schools In Quarters

Twenty-four schools will be competing in the 2018 Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League (FSSRL) quarterfinals at Prince Charles Park, Nadi, tomorrow.
“We will be having three grades competing, the Under-15, U17 and U19 in the Fiji Secondary Schools competition,” FSSRL executive Laisiasa Corerega said;
“There will be 12 schools from the western division and 12 schools from the south/eastern zones that will be part of the national quarters.
“We would like urge to the public to come out in numbers to support the schools.”
Fiji National Rugby League chief executive officer Timoci Naleba highlighted that only potential players will be selected from the competition to be part of the Fiji Rugby league Academy team.
“I think schools have prepared well compared to what I have witnessed last year,” Naleba said.
“This year teams have lifted their level of competition and the number of schools participation has increased as well.
“New schools have adapted quickly to the game.
“So, we hoping it would be an interesting weekend of competition as we will start identifying players that will be selected into the FNRL Academy team.
“We have already made our commitment to make sure we have enough players developed locally for the Vodafone Fijian Bati team before the Rugby league World Cup in 2021.
“I think that would be the objective for the students to target.
“Also to make it to the ENRL Academy team the students will have to prove themselves to be part of the elite national squad. I am really looking forward to the FSSRL quarterfinals on Saturday.”
