Being first in the family to graduate from university is what makes Fulori Cavukiliu delighted.

The 27-year-old said that her teacher inspired her while she was at school.

She is visually impaired and is aiming to teach after her graduation, and further her education.

She could not use computers and read books by herself because she was not able to see properly.

“I have graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and feel that I am done (for now),” Ms Cavukiliu said.

“When I started my journey in 2013, life was not easy for me because I was new to computers and my family member had to do typing for me,” she said.

“My dad is a retired head teacher but he is still working for the family which inspired me to be someone in life.”

She said that her parents were emotional when they heard of her graduation because her other siblings were not able to complete their studies at university.

Ms Cavukiliu has three siblings, she is the third eldest.

“I am thankful that I got a Tertiary Education Loans Scheme (TELS) scholarship for disabled people which helped me complete my studies,” she said.

“When disability was not established in university it was hard for me because my dad used to take me all around the campus for my tutorial classes and read  books for me.”

She is now pursuing her Certificate in Education and upon completing the course, Ms Cavukiliu is thinking of teaching and furthering her studies.

Ms Cavukiliu is originally from Ono-i-Lau.
