Queries over scholarship fund balance

The Ministry of Civil Service is verifying documents relating to the Public Service Commission (PSC) Scholarship Lending Fund after a reported drop by $346,402.34 of the lending fund account balance for the period ending July 31, 2016.

This was revealed during submissions to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts from the ministry on the 2016 Auditor-General’s Report. A sum of $1,463,143 in Public Service Commission (PSC) Scholarship Lending Fund was recorded in the Ministry of Civil Service general ledger for the period under review.

However, an audit report said supporting documents were not maintained at the ministry to support the reduction.

As a result the accuracy and validity of the balance could not be determined.

Answering queries about PSC scholarship dues, Ministry of Economy Director Financial Management Information System Asinate Taukeinikoro said they obtained scholarship folders from the old PSC office and verified it.
