Semi Valemei has secured a two-year contract with the Canberra Raiders Rugby League Club in Australia

Raiders’ high performance recruitment manager, Peter Mulholland sealed the deal with the Ba Provincial Freebird Institute student yesterday.

Valemei is expected to feature for the Raiders Under-20 team in May.

Mulholland would be to out scout for more talents during the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League quarterfinals in Nadi tomorrow.

“I am here to watch the national quarterfinals and to look for some talents,” Mulholland said.

“The Raiders want to create a pathway for the schools to join the club.

“Twelve months ago we set up a small academy comprised of 21 players. We are pleased to have signed a two- year contract with Valemei.”

Mulholland said there was no requirement for the boys to stop playing rugby union or to start playing rugby league if they’re new to the sport.

He said the Raiders understand the boys are still in school and that education should remain their primary focus.

“I just want the boys to be able to enjoy themselves.”
