The Fiji Institute of Bankers (FIB) recongised some members on Thursday with lifetime awards for their tremendous hard work that helped boost the sector.

FIB president Saud Minam acknowledged all 40 awardees for their distinguished dedications and meritorious services to the banking industry and also as role models for young members.

Two categories of awards that were presented included ‘Category Awards’ and ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’.

Bank of Baroda chief executive officer Sudhansu Khamari acknowledged his seven staff for their hard work and encouraged them to participate more in banking activities.

“My staff needs to improve and increase their skills in order to reach the level expected,” he added.

Mr Khamari has worked with the bank for more than 25 years.

The bank, he said, to  become more successful conducts in-house training and workshops for its staff.

For ‘Category Awards’ the Corporate Banker of the Year was awarded to Dharmendra Nand.

“It’s been a joyful moment and would like to acknowledged senior officers for their leadership  in order to receive the award,” he said.

Mr Nand encouraged his colleagues to work hard in order to achieve their goal in life.

People’s person banker of the year was awarded to Ritesh Singh from the ANZ Banking Group.

“Winning the award is a great pleasure; it reflects the teamwork and unity,” Mr Singh said.

He acknowledged the support of his staff and attributed the bulk of his success to hard work and perseverance. 

Among the 23 lifetime achievement awardees was Punam Nand, 32, of Bank of Baroda.

Ms Nand has workded at the bank for 25 years and said she was overwhelmed after receiving the award.

Another Baroda staff member, Ragni Sharma, 25, in receiving her award, acknowledged her senior officers for their support.

There were nine scholarships handed out during the awards ceremony.

One recipient, Freddy Raj, 20, acknowledged the award.

He said it would enable him to continue his Postgraduate studies in accounting at the University of the South Pacific. 

Another recipient, a Postgraduate commerce student, Payal Priyanka Kumar, 19, said she was thankful to receive the scholarship.
