All Hindu faith-based schools will be closed on Monday, March 26, 2018, to allow Hindu students to celebrate Ram Navami.

Education permanent secretary Alison Burchell in a circular to all schools said: “The Ministry has been approached by Hindu faith-based schools about the possibility of closure for this religious day.

“All Hindu faith-based schools may close for Ram Navami.

“This is in line with a decision taken in 2016.

“Ram Navami is a significant event in the Hindu calendar, which celebrates the birth of the Hindu God, Lord Rama.

“Hindus all over Fiji will celebrate Ram Navami after prayers, fasting and singing praises to Lord Rama.

“I wish all adherents of the Hindu faith success, happiness and peace on this auspicious occasion,” Ms Burchell said.
