Earthworks and demolition of the former Seashell Cove Resort have already begun to make way for a new $80 million hotel at the Momi Bay site, between Nadi and Sigatoka.

The CP Group, which owns the Novotel in Nadi and Suva and the Mercure in Nadi will begin construction once all ground works are done.

The hotels are being managed by the Accor Hotel Group.

Plans to redevelop the Seashell Cove Resort into a five-star resort by its new owner, the Pandey Hotel Corporation, was first mentioned in July 2016.

SunBiz had reported earlier that the initial project estimate was $35 million including the earthworks, demolitions and reconstruction.

The corporation is owned by the Pandey family who are originally from Singapore but have moved to Auckland, New Zealand.

The proposed site known as the Pandey Momi Bay Project is located adjacent to the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay.

This was highlighted then by Pacific Architecture Limited/CDA Pacific director, Brett Taylor.

Mr Taylor had said works on the project was expected to take around 18 months to complete.

The initial budget was to cater for 125 rooms with separate villas of which would be duplex.

According to Mr Taylor, the new owners bought the resort at the end of 2014.
