Police Round Up Suspects For Western Union Robbery

Police are in the process of eliminating suspects to identify two men who took part in a daring daylight robbery on Saturday in a Western Union branch at the RB Patel Centrepoint complex, four miles.

Two suspects entered a DVD shop, hit the security guard with pinch bar, and used the same tool to break into the Western Union office.

Two Western Union staff members were in the branch at the time. The two women had locked themselves inside their office while the two suspects broke open the lock and entered the area where money was kept.

They fled with approximately $70,000 out of which $30,000 was Fijian currency.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said: “We have rounded up a few suspects who are now going through the process of elimination. Police investigation into the case is continuing.”

Mr Qiliho has reiterated that Police have observed that when ‘hardened criminals’ were given bail, they noted a hike in criminal activities.

Meanwhile, a Nausori man is expected to appear in court soon following his arrest.

It is alleged that methamphetamine was found in the man’s property.

He is in Police custody and investigations are continuing.
