Yusuf : Narrow Loss To Improve Rankings

The Vodafone Fijian football side went down 3-2 to Kaya FC in their final match in the Philippines on Saturday night. Kaya FC are currently in second place in the Philippines Football League points standing.

Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said the team did well despite not winning any match on tour.

“We had a young side for this tour and they played to their level best,” he said.

“It was a tough match against a professional club and our players gave their all. The bulk of players on this tour are from our under-23 team and we are proud of them.

“Our coach rotated the players in the two matches and we expect their performance to be further enhanced.”

Yusuf said their narrow loss to the Philippines will also give them some FIFA ranking points which will help improve their standing.

The national side lost their clash against the Philippines by similar margin.

VODAFONE PREMIER LEAGUE

The Vodafone Premier League will resume on April 8 with two matches to be played. This was confirmed by Yusuf.

“The VPL was put on hold because of the Vodafone national team’s international commitment which involved most district players,” he said.

EASTER HOLIDAYS

“The team will arrive on Monday from Philippines and players will again be involved in their religious football tournaments during the Easter holidays.

“In view of that, we have decided to take a week off as well before fully resuming the VPL.

“Fiji FA supports the religious tournaments as these tournaments are very important in the development of football in the country.”

Meanwhile, Navua thrashed Northland Tailevu 6-1 in the Vodafone Senior League match while Nadroga held Lami 3-3..
