Weightlifting Fiji shifted preparation to a new level at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia.

They are in good shape to win medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games next month.

The five lifters are Eileen Cikamatana, Apolonia Vaivai, Manueli Tulo, Poama Qaqa and Taniela Rainibogi.

Weightlifting Fiji executive and Team Fiji assistant chef de mission Christopher Yee said the five lifters have been training in New Caledonia under head coach Josefa Vueti.

“They were training in Suva last year but were distracted at the gym since it is open to the public and everyone uses the equipments,” Yee said.

“Getting the lifters to the institute was the right decision for us as they were able to train with resources and the full gears which they need.

“Also having the Oceania Weightlifting director Paul Coffa around is a great opportunity for the lifters as they trained alongside some of the best from the Pacific as well.”

Apart from rugby 7s, Cikamatana is another gold medal prospect for Fiji as she earlier stated: “It’s gold medal for me, do or die.”

Meanwhile, Team Fiji will depart tomorrow for Gold Coast, Australia.
