The Team Fiji women bowlers aim to win medals for the first time at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the Broadbeach Bowls Club, Gold Coast, Australia next month.

The women have not won a medal to date and they are confident of breaking the trend this year.

The team is led by former world number three Litia Tikoisuva, 54, who is appearing for her fifth Commonwealth Games while Radhika Prasad, 62 and Doreen O’Connor appearing for their fourth Games Also in the mix are debutants Loretta Tikoisuva, and Sheryl Mar.

“This is the moment we have been waiting for. We just want to go out there and test the competition,”team manager Usa Kalim said.

“Our objective is to do our best, make Fiji proud and win a medal. We have the veterans like Litia and Radhika.

“The mixture is good with Litia playing the singles and Sheryl to skip in the fours. It is a good combination.”

Bowlers hope for warm up games

Kalim said they are hoping to play warm up games in Gold Coast.

“We need to test the green speed as the ones in Fiji are pretty slow because of the condition. That is why we are going two days early.

Fiji’s best result at the Commonwealth Games was in 1998 in Malaysia where Tikoisuva and O’ Connor teamed up to finish in fourth spot.
