The Ministry of Youth and Sports coordinated Boat Masters’ training for about 80 people in Navolau, Rakiraki from the March 12 to  23.

The training, facilitated by the Maritime and Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF), was aimed at creating awareness among participants on regulations and safety measures while at sea.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou encouraged participants to become self–reliant and utilise the knowledge gained through the training.

“I urge participants to be aware of safety measures while out at sea,” Minister Tuitubou said.

“There are laws regarding sea travel and precautionary measures that everyone must adhere to. This training also provides a pathway for youths to pursue further studies and have more opportunities to find employment as boat operators.”

The chief guest during the closing of the programme, Roko Tui Ra Mosese Rakoroi shared similar sentiments while presenting the licences to participants.

“All participants must take advantage of such opportunities provided to you. “Enhance your capabilities to be a fully-fledged boat captain to operate bigger ships in future,” he said

Mata ni Tikina Navolau, Apisalome Labalaba thanked the Government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for training opportunities. Participants came from as far as Wakaya Island, Nadi and from many coastal villagers in Ra.
