Queen Victoria School are working towards establishing themselves at the 2018 Coca-Cola Games, says head coach Taniela Domoni.

Domoni said yesterday that they are more focused on developing their athletes at the lower grades since most of the gold medallists from last year have gone into tertiary studies.

He added though preparations have been behind the support from the old scholars have been tremendous and they are optimistic in bringing over 50 athletes to the Coca-Cola Games.

“We are trying to get the sub-junior and junior boys into the right frame of mind,” he said.

“So in this Tailevu zone we would just like to gauge ourselves. Looking at the other top schools that are traditionally giants of athletics we are a bit behind in terms of preparations.”

Domoni further added that we have athletes who are training in an amateur environment so to bring them into this level requires a lot of money.

“Schools that can be supported well in terms of resources and finance are those that are doing well now.

“So across the board the smaller schools will always loss out because the athletes will always want to win the game as a team. They can’t win in those small schools so they end up in this more prominent schools and that is the channel they are following now.”
