Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Confirms Allegation of Rape, Investigation
The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto has confirmed an allegation of rape by a female soldier at Queen Elizabeth Barracks, in Suva.
Rear Admiral Naupoto confirmed from Japan yesterday: “There is an allegation by a female soldier that she was raped.”
The Commander said the military police were finalising their investigation.
RFMF Chief of Staff Brigadier-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai also confirmed the allegation. He said a release would be made after the investigation.
The soldiers who allegedly took part in the rape are in custody at QEB.
Videos and photos of the alleged rape were widely circulated on social media but were taken down after protests were lodged with Facebook.
