Raynal Singh is expected to clinch top honours in the men’s Easter Open Tennis Championship at the Regional Tennis Complex in Nadovu, Lautoka.

The event is being sponsored by WG General Pacific Limited.

Singh is expected to face an uphill battle from Junior Benjamin of the Solomon Islands. Australia based- Deverath Narayan is part of the event alongside Graham Mani of the Solomons while women players include Carol Lee and Ruby Coffin.

Tennis Fiji secretary Sachin Reddy said, 90 players are participating in the four-day tournament.

“We have made few changes in the tournament as we have merged the open men to combine with the ladies single. Also for the open men and combined ladies double,” he said.

“This is due to the lack of entries in the open women category we have come to a resolution to merge the men and women since this women are pretty in the same level with the men.”

The championship serves as the ITF West Pacific qualifier to be held at the same venue in May.

“There is also the under-10, U12, U14, U16, social men, veteran singles and mixed doubles.”

Reddy, who is also the tournament referee, says, they hope for good weather to prevail. The tournament starts at 8.30am today and the finals are to be played on Monday.
