Finau Sacrifices For Family

While people spent the Easter holiday with their loved ones, Patrick Finau was selling his produce at the Labasa Market, despite the heavy rain.
The Vuna villager from Taveuni will return to his village after all his produce is sold.
The father of one sacrificed his Easter holiday to earn some money for his family.
“I came to Labasa on Tuesday and have been here ever since. I sleep in the market area because I want to sell all my produce, then return home,” Mr Finau said.
“I would like to spend Easter with my family, but I am sacrificing for my family. I am a Roman Catholic and I know the programmes. So sometimes I leave my produce and go to church then come back and continue selling.”
The 43-year-old farmer said it was the first time he had travelled to Labasa Market to sell his produce.
“I decided to come here at the start of this week because the cost of the exported dalo is very low. Coming here I get good money at the Labasa Market,” Mr Finau said.
“Most of the guys from my village are here too. We all come to Labasa Market when the price of the exported dalo drops.”
Mr Finau was at the Labasa Market accompanied by several other villagers to sell their produce.
He was selling dalo, plantain (vudi), coconut, chillies and cocoa yams (dalo-ni-tana).
