$39M For Fijian Health Sector

The Australian Government will invest AUD$25 million (FJD$39.05m) over five years in Fiji’s health sector.
This was outlined by the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar, during the opening of the new Waimaro Health Centre in Ra on Wednesday.
The investment will encompass the strengthening of health services and primary health care, strengthening public health and hospital services.
“It will strengthen planning and financial management, support workforce development and enhance health information for better decision making,” Ms Akbar said.
“The health programme is administered by the Fiji Program Support Facility and is currently in its first year of implementation and through which there will be more opportunities of development for the health sector in Fiji.”
She said such programmes required collaboration and commitment of our stakeholders and it would generate wellbeing and development of Fiji’s communities.
“I see it as a platform to strengthen Australia-Fiji partnership and it will serve as a great inspiration for other potential stakeholders to join hands with the Ministry of Health.”
Ms Akbar urged stakeholders to get on board and help them make much-needed changes to enhance health services in Fiji.
