It was complete silence at the Team Fiji camp when President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote informed the athletes on the tragedies and damage brought about by Tropical Cyclone Josie last weekend.

President Konrote visited the athletes on Tuesday night at the Games Village and motivated the athletes not to be disturbed on tragic news from home but to make all Fijians proud with their performance.

“We coming to the end of cyclone season and we hope from now on we have some good weather but the nation mourns the loss of our loved ones.

“Let’s hope for a clear weather in the next couple of days.

“You have been provided with good accommodation and I hope you don’t eat too much.”

Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee president Joe Rodan Senior acknowledged the President for his visit.

“We will compete for all the people back home especially for those who lost their loved ones over the weekend.

“And not only us here at the Gold Coast but also the 7s rugby boys in Hong Kong,” he said.
