Nawaka Villagers Praise Government’s Swift Assistance and Recovery Efforts

Close to 232 people in Nawaka Village yesterday applauded Government for their timely assistance after their homes were badly damaged by floodwaters.
During Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s tour of the Western Division yesterday, he visited the village to see for himself the distribution of food ration packs to the 232 villagers.
With smiles on their faces, villagers gathered in numbers at the village hall hoping to meet the nation’s leader or to take a selfie with him, if they were lucky enough. Village headman Mosese Ronakuru thanked Government for the timely assistance.
“Government started assisting us a day after floodwaters destroyed our homes, they assisted us with basic food items and other items, and their assistance continued today,” he added.
Serai Yabaki, 43, also shared the sentiments and thanked Government for the assistance.
“After the flood destroyed our house, I was worried of what to feed my children and altogether there are six people in my life, this assistance has come at the right time,” he said.
Kaminieli Aria, 31, said the food rations would sustain them for the next two weeks.
“My house was one of the many homes that was badly destroyed by the recent floods, all our food items were destroyed. We want to thank Government for their assistance,” he said.
