Burst mains affect water supply in Labasa

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) yesterday waited for flood waters to recede on the Dogoru River so that burst water mains could be repaired.

WAF’s regional manager northern, Apeteniko Radrodrolagi said that before the team of engineers could repair the two burst water mains, they would have to wait for flood waters to recede.

Mr Radrodrolagi confirmed that a 15-inch PVC water main from their Nasealevu intake connecting to the Benau Reservoir had burst.

“This has been complicated by the washing away of another 10-inch water main, which links the Navau intake to the Benau Reservoir,” he said.

“The burst main is located in the middle of Dogoru River and access is still restricted because of the strong currents. Our team will wait for the flood levels to  recede in order to attend these two water main burst.”

He advised that Dogoru was about 20 kilometres outside Labasa town. Meanwhile, 20 trucks will be carting water to residents in the affected areas. With more heavy rain forecasted for the weekend, WAF advised all Northern Division residents to expect some water disruptions, to store water and also boil drinking water.
