Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama can advise President Jioji Konrote to dissolve Parliament on any day from today onwards.
Seven days from receiving advice from the Prime Minister and from dissolving Parliament, Mr Konrote will issue the writ of elections which will set the elections countdown into motion.
Under Section 60 of the Fijian Constitution, the last day for the receipt of a nomination of a candidate for election to Parliament is 14 days after the date of the issue of the writ and polling starts no later than 30 days after the last day for the receipt of nominations.
Once the writ is issued, people can no longer register to vote in the 2018 General Election.
