Young Mareta Fights On

The baby of the national weightlifting team, Maria Mareta competed on Friday night at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Mareta finished in 12th place with a total of 154 kilogrammes. She snatched 68kg and clean & jerk 86kg.
Maria snatched 68kg in her first snatch but was given two red flags out of three for a no lift.
She recovered well and cleared 68kg in her second attempt. Her third attempt of 72kg was not successful but was successful with 83kg and 86kg in her first two attempts in the clean and jerk.
She cleaned the 90kg in her third attempt but missed narrowly.
There was only an 8kg difference between the 8th place and her.
Maria who recently turned 17 is looking forward to compete at the Oceania Championships in June and stand a chance to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games in October in Argentina.
The competition was won by Australia’s Tia-Clair Toomey, Tali Darsigny of Canada won the silver while Jenly Wini of Solomon Islands won the bronze. This was Solomon Islands first ever medal at the Commonwealth Games.
