It was a good experience for Aaron Powell after running the men’s 100 metres heats at Carrara Stadium in Gold Coast, Australia yesterday. Powell ran in heat seven and clocked 11.03sec to finish sixth failing to qualify to the next round.

“It was a great experience for me to be running in my first Commonwealth Games, competing with top athletes around the world,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the women’s 100m Makereta Naulu finished seventh in her heat with the time of 12.23sec.

 

KAHATOKA SENT OFF, FIJI THRASHED

Indiscipline play reared its ugly head when the Fijian netball team suffered a 65-44 thrashing against Barbados on Saturday night.

The Vicki Wilson coached- side were a player down towards the end of the match when goalkeeper Episake Kahatoka was sent off for foul play.

Wilson said it was a disappointing finish.

“We are disappointed with the outcome of playing with six players,” she added.

 

Now that the Fijians are down to 11 players with goalshooter Alesi Paul ruled out due to injury, Wilson believes on the importance of players to step-up to the challenge.

They need to play their role,” she added.
