Naduva: Mission Possible

Team Fiji rugby 7s speedster Alasio Naduva is confident the Gareth Baber-coached side can achieve another feat at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia  on Friday and Saturday.

Team Fiji rugby 7s speedster Alasio Naduva is confident the Gareth Baber-coached side can achieve another feat at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia  on Friday and Saturday.

The Naweni, Cakaudrove native said after being the first team to win for four years-in-a- row in Hong Kong, the Seremaia Tuwai –captained side can win Fiji’s first gold medal in rugby sevens  at the Commonwealth Games.

He said: “My mission is to help the team win the first ever Commonwealth Games rugby gold.

“I am not only representing myself but my family and all Fijians.

“The only challenge for us is to maintain and keep improving our game. I always give my best in every game as I enjoy the sport.”

Naduva was happy to make the 13-member squad for the Commonwealth Games.

“Firstly, I want to thank the Lord for his blessing in my life to be part of the Com-monwealth Games and I want to thank the coach for believing in me,” he said.

“I also want to thank my family, my parents and uncles Sekaia Ragata and Atunaisa and not forgetting my Army teammates.

“I will give my best for Fiji and help the team achieve another feat at the Commonwealth Games.”

He made his debut for Fiji at the Sydney leg of the 2017-2018 World Sevens Series.

While growing up in Naweni, the 28-year-old often prayed for an opportunity to play for his country.

“Growing up with the family of eight in Savusavu, I have always wanted to represent Fiji in rugby, “Naduva said.

“I remember praying for it daily and God did answer my prayer.

“When I ran out onto the field for the first time at the Sydney 7s, I thought of my parents, Alosio and Ateca.

“I am so indebted to them for supporting me and my siblings.

“This is the beginning of a new journey for me and I thank all who made it possible for me.  With God’s guidance, I plan to enjoy the ride as long as I can.”
