Team Fiji boxer Winston Hill dropped to his knees in delight and gave thanks to the Lord after securing a Commonwealth Games medal.

This was after he won his quarterfinal clash on Tuesday night beating 24 – year- old Stephen Newns of Scotland by unanimous points’ decision in the men’s 69kg division to advance to the semi-finals.

Hill will take on Northern Ireland’s Aidan Walsh tomorrow for a place in the gold medal match.

“I’ve only been in boxing competition boxing for four years.

“I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by so many good people,” Hill said.

“This is all a team effort and I’m looking forward to take home gold for Fiji.

“This is to all for Fijians who are suffering from the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Keni.”

Fiji has a gold and bronze medals in weightlifting and our next hope will be the Team Fiji men’s 7s rugby team.

The Gareth Baber–coached side aims to win Fiji’s first Commonwealth Games rugby gold this weekend.
