Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) crew members have managed to fix 85 per cent of water problems in Labasa.

This was confirmed by the WAF Northern regional manager, Apete Radrodrolagi, yesterday.

He said it would take probably another two days, depending on the weather, to fill up the Benau Reservoir.

“The two bulk main pipes at Nasealevu and Navau at Dogoru River feeds water into the Benau reservoir,” Mr Radrodrolagi said.

“These two bulk main pipes were damaged during the flash floods last week and one main pipe has been fixed so far.

“There are some leakage problems in the system, which we are looking into. Twenty-five workers are doing shift work to speed up the repair work.

Some men from Dogoru Village have joined to assist our crew.

“On Monday, 15 men from the village assisted and yesterday there were five and we are very thankful to them. As the work is nearing completion the Benau reservoir is gradually getting filled up. It is only the high elevated areas in Labasa that are still without water.

“Our operation centre is now receiving fewer calls from customers because many residents are getting water now.

“We would like to thank customers for collecting rain water for use during the past few days while we attended to the problem.

The weather has not been favourable and workers on the ground have faced lot of challenges trying to fix the main pipes in the flooded river at Dogoru.”
