Stop making excuses, do the right thing, bow out: Vugakoto tells national netball coach.

Suva Netball Association president Vasiti Vugakoto took to social media to voice out her frustrations at the performance of the national netball team.

“Lost all the games in Wales, lost all the games in New Zealand, lost all the games in the Commonwealth Games, what else?” the former national netball captain asked.

Vugakoto called on head coach Vicki Wilson to stop all her justifications.

“We’ve had enough of justifications. We are not stupid. What is your definition of “elite team or players? I’m assuming that our definitions are definitely not the same. “Now, you are making excuses. One of the excuses may I quote ‘Fiji is ranked 12th and we should not expect a win’.”

Vugakoto said in 1999 they represented Fiji to the World Championship unranked.

“But we returned 6th in the world. That was a coached team from day one. Julie (Hoornweg) moved her family from Australia to Fiji. Not 30 percent of her time in Fiji and the rest either in UK, USA, Australia to name a few.

“Scouting of more players? Stop it. How can you scout players when you are hardly in Fiji? Have you been to Vanua Levu, Ba, Rakiraki, Tailevu, Lomaiviti, Taveuni to scout for players? You’ve been saying this since you arrived but you end up with the same players.

“When we know for a fact that we have a pool of great netballers. Do the right thing, bow out.”

Vugakoto said locals can do a much better job than Wilson.

“To the Fiji Netball executive, is this the best that you can produce? No, I do not think so. Your decisions were challenged from day one when you recruited Vicki. But you always justified your decision with the support of the Fiji National Sports Commission (as you always say) and get away with it.

“Now you are making excuses about taking a pregnant player. What else? Enough is enough,” she alleges

“International games since Vicky was recruited. Worst results ever and the list goes on. We are even struggling to at least win one International game. We need a big change.

“Please, help us get them out!!! Petitions will be circulated for signatures. Need volunteers from all districts.”

Fiji Netball Association’s president Wainikiti Bogidrau and Wilson are both at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Bogidrau said she’s on leave and would comment when she resumes on April 23.

Wilson has yet to respond when this edition went to press last night.
