Island School Banks On Top 4

Adi Maopa Secondary School from Vanuabalavu is ready to participate in today’s Maritime Zone competition at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
The 4-member athletics squad along with their teachers are staying at the City Private Hotel and are confident that they will qualify for the Coca-Cola Games.
“Nine athletes represented the school last year but this year we have decided to bring our four best athletes,” said manager Vuniani Vasu.
Vasu told SUNsports yesterday that during their preparation they had faced a lot of challenges.
“We were able to recruit students who we believe have the ability to win us medals. The best four that are here come with our trust that they will be able to get medals for the school.
“This year the numbers had decreased because when students from the islands come to Viti Levu, one of the biggest problems we face is finance.”
Vasu added that their main mission is to make the school proud.
“We are confident that the boys will be able to achieve their aim. They have been training hard for it and we hope for a good start tomorrow.
“This week we have been training in the stadium, this is to give the boys a fair idea of what they will be facing or the position that they will be in during the Games.
“Right now we are ready for the zone and we believe that they will rise during the Coca-Cola Games this week.”
Vasu thanked their sponsors for assisting in their preparations.
“A big thank you goes to Hot Bread Kitchen owner Mere Samisoni for assisting us with our accommodation.
“To the Mago Island Resort with the $2000 sponsorship, Kaibu Resort in Yacata with a $1000 backing and Salote Radrodro for providing us a seven- seater rental car that will help with our transportation in Suva.”
They will take part in the 400 metres, javelin, shotput and long jump.
