It was a joyous day for cyclone victims on Kadavu when Government officials distributed 3000 food ration packs yesterday.

Members of a Government delegation led by Minister for Waterways Mahendra Reddy brought with them food ration packs on board the Lomaiviti Princess.

He was accompanied by Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Alex O’Connor, Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Vijay Nath and Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou.

“We have come here to deliver food rations for cyclone victims here. We want to thank Government officials here at Vunisea for assisting us because it was through their assessment we were able to know the number of food ration packs needed,” Mr Reddy said.

Lau Provincial Administrator Eliki Masa said the distribution of food rations to more than 2000 households on Kadavu is expected to be completed tomorrow.

He said 2363 households were affected during the cyclone.

Namalata Village headman Atameli Eliki thanked Government for the assistance.

“There are 160 people in this village and most houses were damaged, even our farms. For the past few days we have been eating the leftover crops from our farms,” he added.
