An additional 25 military personnel have been deployed to assist with rehabilitation works on Kadavu.

They arrived on board the Lomaiviti Princess at Vunisea Government Station accompanying Government ministers.

Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commanding Officer 3FIR, Lieutenant-Colonel Penioni Naliva also arrived in Kadavu.

He said the additional manpower would assist the 40 military personnel already on the ground.

“We have brought more military personnel to assist with recovery works on the ground, such as the distribution of food rations and clearing of heavy debris,” he added.

Lieutenant-Colonel Naliva said deployment of additional manpower was a directive from the Commander, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.

RFMF 3FIR Lieutenant Kiti Vunibatikula is responsible for overseeing operations on the ground.

He added that military personnel had been heavily involved in the clearing of debris from Government structures and roads.

“Our men have been working day and night to ensure roads are accessible and schools are clean,” Lieutenant Vunibatikula said.
