The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has confirmed plans to lift the deck of the Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge higher. The FRA’s chief executive Jonathan Moore said they wanted the bridge to have an 80-year lifespan, taking into consideration the environmental and climatic issues, .

“We have to consider the conditions that will be there in 80 years’ time,” he said.

“Think about the sea level and the flood potential will be greater, so we need to accommodate that.”

Mr Moore said they are discussing the issue with the Japanese consultants and they have suggested some ideas.

He said raising the level of the bridge would mean more resilience to the future and make it less prone to damages.

The FRA is now reviewing tenders to do technical works.

However, Mr Moore said the construction works should be completed by October to November.
